Music and Instruments

  • The Early Music Shop (www.earlymusicshop.com)
    Sell instruments and music. Although based in the Midlands, they regularly visit Early Music Festivals and workshops throughout the country with a large selection of recorders and music. Alternatively you can obtain instruments on approval for a small fee to cover postage.

  • Thomann (www.thomann.co.uk/index.html)
    Musical instrument retailer, based in Germany but with a UK branch handling online orders within the UK. Delivery is usually prompt, and their returns system is excellent.

  • ​May Hill Edition (https://www.mayhill.co.uk/mhe_wp/)
    Run by Ann & Steve Marshall, this web shop lists hundreds of pieces of recorder music available to purchase, with a link next to each so that you can hear it played.

    More than 500 videos on all aspects of playing the recorder, including tips on how to choose a recorder as well as how to play, how to practise, books and resources...

  • Helen Hooker's website and blog (www.helenhooker.co.uk/)
    Sign up for Helen's email blog to receive fortnightly emails about all things 'recorder'. But also check out the Recorder Consort Downloads section of her website, where you will find lots of consort music to download and play - all with videos of Helen playing the piece and hints and tips. Many also have playalong videos for when you can't get a group together (search on 'Minus One').
